As a young person, we need to ask ourselves if we're okay working our lives away to someone else's benefit or if we want to take ownership of our lives by working for ourselves. The problem is that this isn't really a choice considering that the entire educational system is design to convince us that surrendering our working years to others is the best thing to do.
...it isn't.
In order to be considered for work, you need to spend money that you don't have just to apply and there's no guarantees (but you're guaranteed to have to repay that student loan). In the odd chance that you're hired, you're salary will not be enough to live off of and you'll be pressured into a corporate mold of meetings and performance reviews. At 40, you'll be let go because a technology is able to do what you do at a fraction of the cost.
What will you do then?
On the flip side, if you spent all those years working for yourself then nobody really can "let you go" (other than your patrons if you stop providing good value).
